My Story

Hi, I'm Bongiwe Mkhize

I am a registered Social Worker with a Bachelor of Social Work and a Master's degree in Population Studies, both from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, and I have completed specialised training in Oncology Social Work. I am committed to ongoing professional development and lifelong learning, so that my practice remains informed, ethical, and responsive to the evolving needs of the individuals, families, and communities I support.

My professional experience spans community-based services, non-governmental organisations, and private practice in Durban, where I have worked with individuals experiencing a wide range of emotional, psychological, and social challenges. I provide a compassionate, non-judgemental, and client-centred environment where individuals can safely explore their experiences, develop healthier coping strategies, and work towards meaningful and lasting change.

What Drives the Practice

Vision & Mission

I am passionate about making mental health care accessible, empowering, and culturally responsive. I believe every person has the capacity for growth and healing when they are met with empathy, respect, and evidence-informed support.

Vision

A South Africa where asking for help carries no shame, and where quality mental health support is within reach of every person — in the language they think in.

Mission

To offer compassionate, evidence-informed counselling in a space that is safe, non-judgemental, and culturally attuned — and to keep it reachable through flexible formats, medical aid, and a fee you are told plainly before you commit to anything.

How I Work

Approaches We Use

I believe that every person is unique, which is why I tailor therapy to each client's individual needs, goals, and life experiences. My approach is client-centred, strengths-based, and evidence-informed, creating a safe, compassionate, and non-judgemental space where clients can explore their thoughts, emotions, and challenges openly.

I integrate a range of therapeutic approaches, drawing on trauma-informed care where appropriate rather than working to a fixed protocol. Together, we work to identify practical strategies, develop healthy coping skills, strengthen resilience, and promote lasting emotional well-being.

My goal is not only to help clients manage their current challenges but also to empower them with the confidence, insight, and tools they need to navigate future difficulties and lead more fulfilling lives.
